Allied Medal Display Winner is ME!

How perfect was it that my last post talked about the medal hanger that I was going to get and then the very next morning, Leah from Chasing Atlanta announced ME as the winner to the giveaway!  This goes perfecting with pretty much the way my time has been spent lately, working on getting the house up to par.  Here is the mock up of the hanger that I customized with Joel from Allied Medal Displays.

I can't wait to get it, and it has already shipped!  Also, I may need to order another one sometime pretty quick.  I dug out my medals and lined them up next to a tape measure.  It looks like my new hanger will be pretty full by the time it gets here and hung up.  These go back pretty far, and are my medals for races 10miles or longer and my tris.  I might need to scale it back to half marathons, marathons, and my significant tris, like my first spring and best time, as well as my extra special 70.3.  Hopefully I can get it hung quickly once it comes in.  We have been hanging things like crazy to get them out of the way for the new carpet, which is yet to arrive.  We still need to get more anchors, but I don't know if we will get it done before the carpet, which is going to turn the house upside-down.  We have to move everything that is on carpeted areas, pretty much undoing everything we have been working on, except for the kitchen and dining room.

I spent the rest of this past week working on getting things organized around the house getting aquainted with some running areas around.  I had a total bust as well as a total score.  I was super excited to try out EP Tom Sawyer Park on Wed.  I got the kids loaded, food, water, ect for them for the stroller.  There was a tri scheduled to happen on Saturday, so I figured it must be a great place.  It did have an awesome huge pool, which while I was there was filled with kids.  I didn't get any info on their lap swimming schedule or prices, which I am regretting, but they have no childcare, so it is doubtful that I would be able to go there much anyway.  I found their fitness path, which I was bummed that is was only a mile long.  Ugh, Seneca was 1 mile long too, and I really wanted something longer.  Also, it was cinder.  I figured I would give it a shot, but it was really really hard to push the double jogger on cinder.  It also had some really uneven spots, and the cinder was pretty deep, so it was a challenge the entire time.  I made it two loops before I didn't want to continue.

I was pretty bummed that this park was such a bust.  So the next day to get in some decent miles, I treadmilled it in the air conditioning.  Weak, yes, but an effective way to get my miles in without the kids whining or me getting lost.

I tried another place on Saturday that had also been recommended.  I got on map my run to check the distance of the path along Commerce Parkway, a road where I had driven before in LaGrange.  It was a nice wide path, and smooth.  The only downside is that it is only 3 miles long, so I was able to get in 6 miles doing an out and back.  It also doesn't have any bathrooms or anything on the end where I started.  It did have a McDonald's at the other end, a little ways past the 3 mile point on the cross street, but we didn't need it for the bathrooms, and I thankfully left my wallet in the car.  It had a few rolls, and was downhill from the car, so uphill (and into the wind) on the way back.  It was a great run, and I did walk it up a hill around mile 5.

The other great news was that today, while sitting in Relief Society at church, I overhear the ladies sitting next to me talking about running half marathons this fall.  Yeah!  New running friends from church.  I talked with them and hopefully will be able to learn some longer routes and perhaps join them for some runs here coming up.  Yeah!  Hopefully this carpeting project won't derail my running too much for this week.  I am sure it will help my arm strength from furniture moving, but hopefully I won't injure my back!

That is so cool that you won the medal rack! I'm tempted to get one of those - we have all of the medals sitting on a shelf in the basement and it's a mess!

Hope you are getting settled in ok!!
